Leafs Acquire Versteeg In Trade With Chicago

Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced a multi-player trade with the Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday evening. The Maple Leafs have obtained right-winger Kris Versteeg and the rights to left-winger Bill Sweatt. In exchange, the Blackhawks will receive forwards Viktor Stalberg, Chris DiDomenico and Philippe Paradis. Versteeg, 24, appeared in 79 regular season games in 2009-10 and recorded 20 goals and 24 assists to place sixth in Blackhawks' team scoring. He was +8 with four game-winners and four goals on the powerplay. As a member of the Blackhawks? Stanley Cup championship team this season, Versteeg tallied six goals and eight assists in 22 postseason games. He was +4 with 14 minutes in penalties and contributed two game-winning goals while averaging 17:12 of ice time. Versteeg also reached the 20-goal plateau in 2008-09 when he collected 22 goals and added 31 assists in 78 contests for Chicago. The Lethbridge, Alberta native was originally Boston?s fourth choice, 134th overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft.

Ducks Acquire Jaffray For MacMillan In Deal With Calgary

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the club has acquired left wing/center Jason Jaffray from the Calgary Flames in exchange for left wing Logan MacMillan. Either club could also receive a seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in the trade (the pick is conditional for both clubs). Jaffray, 29, appeared in 72 contests for the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2009-10, scoring a team-leading 25-29=54 points with 70 penalty minutes (PIM) and a club-high +24 rating. In nine Calder Cup Playoff games with the Heat, the Rimbey, Alberta native collected 2-1=3 points with eight PIM and a +2 rating. Jaffray also appeared in three contests with the Flames, going scoreless. In 36 career NHL appearances, Jaffray has earned 4-6=10 points with 33 PIM. He made his NHL debut on Dec. 12, 2007 with Vancouver, scoring his first goal that night against then-Anaheim Duck J.S. Giguere.

Nashville Acquires Sergei Kostitsyn In Trade

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has sent goaltender Dan Ellis and forward Dustin Boyd to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Sergei Kostitsyn. All three players? current contracts expire on Thursday, July 1. Kostitsyn, 23 (3/20/87), posted 18 points (7g-11a) in 47 contests during his third season at the NHL level with Montreal in 2009-10. In 155 career NHL contests over the past three seasons, the 6-0, 210-pound left wing has amassed 68 points (24g-44a), in addition to 49 points (15g-34a) in 55 American Hockey League games. Kostitsyn has also suited up for the Habs in each of their last three playoff appearances, putting up eight points (3g-5a) in 18 games.

Avs Trade 2012 Pick To Coyotes For Winnik

The Avalanche announced Monday that the team has acquired forward Daniel Winnik from the Coyotes in exchange for a fourth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Winnik, 25, appeared in 74 games for the Coyotes in 2009-10, tallying 19 points with a +1 plus/minus rating. He led all Coyotes forwards with 54 blocked shots and was second on the club in takeaways with 30. ?Daniel is a young player with size, speed and has the ability to kill penalties,? said Avalanche GM/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. ?He has three years of NHL experience and will fill an important role with our team next season.?

Sanguinetti Headed To Carolina

Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the club has traded defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti to the Hurricanes for Washington's second round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and a 6th round pick, 157th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Sanguinetti, 22, appeared in 61 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL this season, registering nine goals and 29 assists for 38 points, along with 22 penalty minutes. He led all Hartford defensemen with a career-high nine goals, and tied for first among Wolf Pack blueliners in points and ranked second in assists. Sanguinetti skated in five games with the Rangers, making his NHL debut on November 27 at Tampa Bay. The 6-3, 190-pounder has appeared in 150 career AHL games over four seasons with Hartford, recording 15 goals and 69 assists for 84 points, along with 68 penalty minutes.

Brian Burke, president and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Saturday the acquisition of forward Mike Brown from the Ducks in exchange for Toronto?s fifth round draft pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Anaheim used the pick, 122nd overall, to select Chris Wagner from the South Shore Kings of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. Brown, 25, played 75 games with the Ducks during the 2009-10 season, collecting seven points (6 goals, 1 assist) and 106 penalty minutes. In 142 career NHL games with Anaheim and Vancouver, the native of Northbrook, Illinois has registered nine goals and three assists for 12 points with 306 penalty minutes. Brown was originally selected by the Canucks in the fifth round, 159th overall, at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The 25-year-old Fraser had 36 points (13 goals, 23 assists) and 108 penalty minutes in 157 regular-season games with the Blackhawks over the past four years.
